AL, MC, ADL, CNA… What does it all mean?
Like any industry, the senior care community uses many acronyms and “insider vocabulary.” Even our own team members can be guilty of using more letters than words in regular conversations, which can be confusing if you’re a resident or family member.
To help, we’ve created a list senior living acronyms so that you can be confident in your knowledge of industry jargon and terms!
- ADL — Activities of Daily Living
- AL — Assisted Living
- CCRC — Continuing Care Retirement Community
(Also referred to as a Life Plan Community, these communities offer a full continuum of care and require long-term contracts with large, upfront entry fees. Tall Oaks is not a CCRC, but rather, we offer month-to-month leases and no large buy-in.) - CNA — Certified Nursing Assistant
- DON — Director of Nursing
- H & P — History and Physical (medical evaluation form completed by a physician)
